Resources

For Colleges & Universities

Thanks to funding from The Scottish Government, Deaf Action (with support from Queen Margaret University) have created a bespoke BSL teaching pack for Scottish universities offering teacher training courses. The pack contains everything required to successfully run an ‘Introduction to BSL’ level course. All you need to do is find a tutor to deliver it!

Introduction to BSL: teaching pack for universities

Pack contents:

  • Course curriculum including relevant vocabulary, grammar, linguistics and cultural considerations for teachers in a primary education setting.
  • Recommendations for the tutor
  • Teaching resources (BSL videos, web links, handouts and suggested reading list)
  • Example lesson plan
  • Assessment guidance (in line with SQA quality standards)

The course curriculum, resources and recommended teaching methods have all been created with university learning in mind, by Deaf professionals who between them have over 30 years experience of delivering BSL qualification courses up to SCQF level 7.

This course is designed to fit comfortably into any university’s teacher training curriculum and as it is a mix of classroom-based learning and self-study, can be easily incorporated into timetabling systems.

This pack is free to download and can be accessed by clicking the link below (6.8gb zip file)
